March 7, 2022
Looking for ways to entertain your adult friends at a pool party? Or want to add more family fun in the pool? Look no further. Summertime is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of your swimming pool. Not only can you cool off and escape the heat, but there are also plenty of fun activities that you can enjoy with friends and family. Here are ten swimming pool games for adults that you can explore with family and friends.
1. Pool volleyball
Pool volleyball is a fun game that can be enjoyed by just about anyone. It’s also one of the best swimming pool games for adults because it requires minimal equipment and physical conditioning. All you need to get the game rolling is a pool volleyball set. To play, have each team form up behind either side of the net with players standing upright in chest-deep water at arm’s length from their teammates (who do likewise). The goal is to keep passing and tossing around the ball until somebody scores by tossing it over the net across the other team’s boundary line.
2. Tug of war
Tug of war is always a favorite swimming pool game for adults. This game can be played with any number of players, and all you need is a long, strong rope and an equal number of people on either side. On the count of three, everyone pulls as hard as they can until one team manages to pull the other team into the water. Players can increase their pull by using water motions like swimming.
3. Pool basketball
Another great game for those who love to play basketball is pool basketball. This game can be played with just about any type of ball, but a water-resistant ball is best. To set up, you’ll need a pool basketball hoop. Simply place the hoop in the deep end of the pool and have players take turns trying to shoot baskets. If they make it in, their team gets one point, and they stay in the game. If they miss, the other team gets possession of the ball and tries to score.
4. Swimmer racing
Of course, no list of popular swimming pool games for adults would be complete without swimmer racing. This is an excellent game for all ages and can be played with any number of players. To set up, create lanes using pool noodles or other markers and have each player race to the end of their lane and back. The first player to reach the finish line (or whoever completes the course in the shortest time) wins.
5. Wet shirt relay race
This relay race is perfect for a hot day. Players split into teams of two, and the first players for each team start by wearing a soaking shirt. Each team member takes turns running to the other side of the pool, grabbing a shirt from their teammate, putting it on, then running back. The first team to finish wins.
6. Water jousting
This is another game that can be played with any number of players. To get started, you’ll need a pool jousting set. Every player gets a log and jousting bopper. To play, each player stands on their own log and takes turns trying to knock opponents off of theirs with their bopper. If you fall off your log, you’re out! The last player standing wins the game. If you don’t have the jousting set, you can use rafts and pool noodles.
7. Water cup pass
This game is perfect for those who want a little bit of everything. It can be played with any number of players and requires minimal equipment. To get started, everyone gets in a circle, and a cup of water is given to the first person to start passing around. The person with the cup must pass it to the next, over their head and without facing them. The participant receiving the cup must reach out for it by raising their hands to take it. Whoever breaks the formation is out of the round.
8. Marco polo
Marco polo is an oldie but goodie. This game can be played with any number of players and requires minimal equipment. To get started, one player closes their eyes, and the rest scatter around the pool. The player – “Marco,” calls out, and the rest respond with “Polo.” The players with their eyes closed must now try to locate the rest using their voices as a guide. When they catch someone, that player then becomes “Marco.”
9. Chicken fighting
This is a great swimming pool game for adults. In this game, players get into teams of two, and they pick one of them, usually the smallest one, to sit on the shoulders of one team member. The objective here is to dunk the opponent’s team’s sitting player into the water. Keep in mind that this game is best suited for responsible teenagers and adults only. Don’t get aggressive; keep it friendly to avoid any accidents and injuries.
10. Catch me if you can
This is a great game to improve swimming skills and can be played with any number of players. To start, one player gets in the pool and starts swimming around freely. The rest of the players line up on the side, waiting for their turn to dive into the water after catching him/her. If someone catches them, they become “it” and go back to starting position while everyone else stays on deck until it’s caught again.
These are just a few examples of pool games for adults and general family fun that you can enjoy this summer. With so many different options, there’s bound to be something for everyone. So, get out there and start playing!
