OpeMed Transfer Solutions Give Greenways Nursing Home A New Lease Of Life
OpeMed last month have had the privilege of installing more of our systems at Greenways Nursing Home, and have successfully helped to supply easy and safe hoisting solutions for the residents of the brand new bedrooms, and those in the historic area of the building.
The project, which encompassed 12 bedroom hoist tracks and a bathroom XY system with our unique OT200 Ceiling Hoist, has already had a striking impact on not only the lives of the residents, but also on those working with them on a day to day basis. The ability to move a resident from their bed to a wheelchair in the click of a button must be a revelation for a Nursing home. The equipment can greatly improve the working conditions for nursing and caring staff as it eliminates the risk of back injury, increases staff efficiency and assures comfort and dignity during transfer for those being hoisted.
The money saving potential for Nursing Homes are clear; one portable hoist is shared between 4 bedrooms in the new wing at Greenways. As transfers occur intermittently depending on a resident’s needs, the hoist can simply be affixed onto a track where ever it is required, then unclipped and moved on. The portable hoist is lightweight at less than 5kg and can, as a result, be lifted by carers and carried with relative ease from one resident’s room to another.
The structure of the original building, with low and inappropriate ceilings, complicated the fixings of the track. However, this was considered by myself early on in the design stages and after careful liaising with the builder, client and architect our engineers were able to install without incident despite the structural drawbacks.
The on-going project at Greenways is a testament to the success of the equipment; 5 more bedrooms are to be completed soon.
If you believe the money saving benefits of a multi-room hoist share could help you, or if a difficult structure or a need for specialist fixings is holding you back, get in touch and see how OpeMed can offer a solution – whether through expert advice or cleverly considered design.
